Job Description
Our client is Nigeria's emerging EV charging network, headquartered in Abuja. Our client is building a network of solar-powered charging stations across Nigeria's commercial and hospitality corridors - starting with Abuja and expanding to Lagos and beyond. Our client’s zero-capex host model means they own and operate every station, giving them a scalable, asset-backed business with recurring session revenue. Our client is at the pre-seed stage, moving fast, and backed by a clear 5-year roadmap to 150+ stations and $10M+ in annual revenue. Our client is building the future of electric mobility in Nigeria and wants people who want to build it with them - and share in what they create.
The Role
The Chief Operating Officer is the CEO's right hand - the person who takes our client's strategy off the whiteboard and makes it real. You will lead strategic planning, own the delivery of all operational programmes, and provide direct oversight of Human Resources and Finance as the key enablers of sustainable, scalable growth. Where the CEO sets direction and closes deals, the COO holds the engine together: aligning people, process, and performance across every function of the business. You will work alongside the CEO to build the organization from its pre-seed foundations through to a nationally recognized charging network - and equity is a core part of what we are offering.
What You'll Do
Collaborate with the CEO to set and drive organisational vision, operational strategy, and hiring plans across all phases
Lead strategic planning cycles - including annual operations planning, OKR-setting, and organisation-wide performance management
Translate the company strategy into actionable quarterly plans with clear milestones, owners, and accountability mechanisms
Oversee day-to-day operations across all business functions, ensuring delivery against Phase 1 targets: stations live, host agreements signed, and revenue generating
Provide direct operational oversight of Human Resources - recruitment, onboarding, professional development, performance reviews, and retention
Provide direct operational oversight of Finance - budgeting, monthly accounts review, cost control, payroll, and SAFE investor reporting obligations
Monitor organisational performance using tracking tools and dashboards; identify risks early and take corrective action before they become problems
Build and sustain an inclusive, high-performance culture where every team member understands how their work connects to the company's mission
Ensure compliance with Nigerian business regulations - CAMA 2020, Electricity Act 2023, and all applicable sector requirements
Manage capital investments and operating expenses to ensure the company meets its investor targets for growth and profitability
Serve as acting CEO when required and represent client in senior stakeholder, investor, and regulatory engagements
What You Bring
7+ years in operational leadership with a minimum of 3 years in a senior management or C-suite role
Proven ability to translate strategy into actionable quarterly and annual plans and hold teams accountable for delivery
Direct experience overseeing HR and Finance as operational enablers - hiring cycles, payroll, budgeting, management accounts
Strong data literacy - comfortable designing KPIs, reading performance dashboards, and making evidence-based decisions
Track record of building high-performing, inclusive teams in fast-paced environments, ideally at start-up or growth stage
Excellent written and verbal communication - able to represent Client credibly with investors, regulators, and senior partners
Bachelor's degree required; MBA or equivalent strongly preferred
Background in infrastructure, clean energy, mobility, or technology is a strong advantage
How We'll Measure Success
All Phase 1 operational milestones delivered on schedule - stations live, host agreements active, AMPECO platform operational
All Phase 1 roles recruited, onboarded, and performing within 90 days of the COO joining
Monthly management accounts delivered by the 15th; zero budget variance above 10% unreported
Quarterly OKRs set, tracked, and reviewed across all functions; CEO briefed monthly on performance vs plan
Employee retention rate above 90% across the Phase 1 team
Zero regulatory compliance failures across any business functio
